I will never forget my first trip to Europe over 15 years ago. It marked the first time I ever tasted a clementine and the first time I ever saw a REAL pastry shop, one that sold more than birthday cakes and chocolate chip cookies. I was taken, TAKEN by all the desserts. And on that trip, I made it my mission to sample as many different desserts from as many different shops as humanly possible. I gained a lot of weight on that trip, but it was worth every pound. Just before the trip back to the states, I bought 3 pastries to take back home on the plane, fully intending to enjoy them from my own kitchen. They never made it to the Atlantic Ocean. Three whole pastries! Can you imagine how many calories I consumed?
This chocolate almond torte reminds me of many of the desserts I saw, AHEM tasted, in Europe. And it rightly earns the 15 minute title because it is simple to make. It’s a showstopper for anyone who likes chocolate. Like me.
